This week on #LovingLifeLC, we are honored to have local Christian writer & speaker April Rodgers! On her blog, she describes herself as a true southern girl, saying, “I love all things southern: gumbo, pralines, and the word y’all. Ok, maybe I don’t love the heat or the mosquitoes, but that’s just understood.” AMEN, sister, we can definitely relate to that!
April and her husband Adams have been married for 15 years, and they have two girls – Adelene, age 9, and Ellanora, age 7. April has a Bachelors of Business Administration from ULM, where she is a Lifetime Alumni Member. She is a Certified Financial Planner TM and a Recent Graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters in Theological Studies. April also serves as President of The Jeremy Barnhill Foundation for Christian Teens and Devotional Writer for LifeWay Women’s Journey Magazine. On September 24, April will be speaking at the Deep: Women’s Bible Study Conference in West Monroe, which is going to be an incredible day of worshipping and studying the Word. We can’t wait!
What’s your idea of the perfect day?
Waking up to a sunny day on Lake Bruin, watching my girls tube and play in the water, hearing their laughter and seeing my husband smile at the sound of it, then sitting together on the porch swing watching the sunset with the smell of a good steak cooking on the grill.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
This is an excellent question (especially since I just went back to school in my late 30’s)! I would like to be an International Bible Teacher to Women, traveling the world, speaking the name of Christ.
What’s a recipe or snack that you’ve been hooked on recently?
My family is addicted to the Brookside Pomegranates in Dark Chocolate.
What music or song do you love to listen to in the mornings to start your day?
Tell us about your blog!
Reflecting Light in Everyday Life is the title of my blog. You can find me at aprilrodgers.com talking about how we can shine our light for Christ in our everyday lives.
What Scripture has been on your heart lately?
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” It is a reminder that even when life gets crazy I am to trust in God and keep a cool head, knowing that if I do, He will give me the most perfect peace imaginable.
What sport or activity do you love to do?
Is napping considered an activity? If so, this is my favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.
What cause or community initiative are you passionate about?
Compassion International! I was blessed to travel to El Salvador last year with Compassion, and the trip opened my eyes to the impact that this organization has on children that live in poverty. They not only assist with their basic needs (i.e. food, hygiene, and tutoring), but they also encourage them to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
What advice did your mom give you that you will always remember?
She always said, “Words are spirits” with such authority that I thought that specific phrase was in the Bible. It isn’t exactly, but the main point of being kind with my words and speaking positively instead of negatively always stuck with me.
When you were a little girl, what did you dream of?
Being an Olympic ice skater…which was always a pipe dream because (1) I live in Louisiana where there are no ice rinks and (2) I do not have an athletic bone in my body.
If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?
Israel to experience the Holy Land!
April, you are inspiring! Your faithfulness to God and sense of adventure is so evident, and our community and hearts are the better for it. Thanks for stopping by the #LovingLifeLC blog this week!
Readers, we’d love to hear what you think about our #LovingLifeLC series! Our hope is that it would be a source of weekly encouragement and fun. Have an idea for something we should ask? Know someone you’d like to hear from? Let us know!
Also, make sure to check out the Deep Conference and get your ticket (it’s only $10)!
Lots of love,
Life Choices staff 🙂
